The Fullerton Rangers B01 Blue team entered Surf Cup 2017 this past weekend hoping to complete and show well for the colleges that were attending. The team was missing a handful of players but had to remain focused on playing as a team. The Boys started group play against a big and physical FC Bayern team and came out on top with a 2-1 victory. Next up was against FC LA which just came off a big first game win as well. We controlled the game and came away with a solid 2-0 win. After the first 2 games of group play, the team already secured the top spot in their group and heading to the semis. The semis was against Seattle United which won their Surf Cup flight last year. The boys controlled the whole game but went down 1-0 early. They played thru it and tied it up right before half 1-1. Starting off the second half, we scored another goal to go up 2-1 and then got a PK to finish the game with a 3-1 victory. In the finals, the boys went up against Santa Clara Sporting Green. It was a scrappy game and it finished in a 0-0 tie after regulation. The Rangers GK, Jose 'Pepe' Estrada, started off by making a beautiful save to help us go ahead in PK's right at the start. We made the final shot to win with a 4-3 victory in PKs. The boys played with heart and adversity all weekend and are now Surf Cup 2017 Champions!!! Great job, boys, and Coach Rolo Uribe, on a job well done.
